You are the Archivist. Recover and record messages lost in space.

Mouse + keyboard.

Select incoming ships in the RADAR. Input their data to the M.I.F. screen.

After recovering a message you may choose to archive it in order to read it, but your storage is limited. When you've used all of your space, the game is over.

This game is a love letter to late nights spent reading the books and scrolls and text files that occupy the bookshelves and inventories and computers of videogame worlds.

The Archivist was made for the A Game By Its Cover Jam 2021 based on this cover by Samuel Cooke.

great seeing your inspo for this! could totally picture how it went into setting the tone for the game. also, the button pushing sounds were very satisfying

Really cool, this was the cover that I chose for my game too. I settled for an audio mechanic, I couldn't come up with a visual one but you nailed it. I see lots of work, and you could keep building more and more stories with a concept like this!

Interesting how this explores the feeling of missing out on content. I wanted to read all the messages but it didn't let me, and that was clearly intentional. Thought-provoking... really cool interface too.

Yeah, it was intentional, I'm so happy that you picked up on it. Thank you for playing!

Pretty cool! Love the UI!

Thank you!
